The Dirty Onion and Yardbird

3 Hill St, Belfast BT1 2LA, UK – 028 9024 3712

Really liked this place. From the outside it looks like a smaller place, but once you enter it just keeps going. You can sit outside or inside, lower part is for drinks, upper for food. Very nicely decorated, even the toilettes. Staff is very friendly and you get served fast. Plus the food is tasty. Would definitely recommend.

If you like rotisserie chicken and ribs this is the place for you. Bar below serves a good selection of ale. They have local musicians in most nights, playing some traditional music. No TV. No sports. Have an outside area that is heated. Good crowd

Duke of York

7-11 Commercial Ct, Belfast BT1 2NB, UK – 028 9024 1062

What a great pub. Great atmosphere and lots of music being played in the street outside - pub has no problem with you standing outside with a drink, enjoying the music. Thoroughly recommend. Also next to walls that are covered in artwork with all the famous Irish celebrities - you can spend some time trying to work out who everyone is.

Great atmosphere. We were on that street for 2 nights in a row. There is music outside and it's a bit mental but it's great. Well worth going if you are looking to sample the Belfast night life

The John Hewitt Bar

51 Donegall St, Belfast BT1 2FH, UK – 028 9023 3768

Traditional Irish pub in Cathedral Quarter. Has live music most nights and serves lunch during the day. Their sunday trad sessions are amazing! Food is really good too! have multiple different beers on tap as well as rotational taps serving Irish craft beers. Also have a good selection of gins. Worth a visit.

Great food and beer. Easily the best I've had in a 3 day visit in Belfast, and by far the most inexpensive.

The Ginger Bistro

68-72 Great Victoria St, Belfast BT2 7AF, UK – 028 9024 4421

My wife and I came to Belfast for our anniversary and while looking for somewhere to eat we came across this place. Walking in it looks so small, we were met with a welcoming reception and was more than happy to find us a table, even though we had no booking. We sat and looked through the menu, it all sounded good, I ordered the French Onion soup and homemade bread to start and then chicken, mushroom puree and pine nuts with cottage pie, sounds like a strange combination but look at the picture. All went down great, especially with the cocktails we ordered, espresso martini and a "Jawbreaker" gin. We would totally recommend this place to eat, and eat well.

Visited this restaurant with my boyfriend last Saturday evening. Staff was friendly, attentive and the service was great. I got the Roast Fillet of Hake with Leeks, Celeriac, Horseradish and Crayfish Casserole, which was very tasty. My boyfriend got the 10 Oz Co Antrim Sirloin with Roast Tomato & Peppercorn Cream and Fat Chips also super tasty. The only reason I haven't given 5 stars is because we were seated at a high table since they were the only tables available, which personally I find slightly uncomfortable. Definitely worth a visit!

Holohan's at the Barge

1 Lanyon Quay, Belfast BT1 3LG, UK – 028 9023 5973

The perfect place for a dinner date in Belfast. The food never disappoints and the staff are absolutely lovely. We visited for my fiancees birthday and even though I only gave them 15 minutes warning they were able to write a beautiful chocolate message onto her dessert and even find some candles. Exceptional service! Just make sure to book well in advance for dinner as it is a small place that fills up fast.

Lovely meal, unique atmosphere, and excellent service. Had the special, a seafood boxy and it was spectacular. My mother had the hake and daughter had the steak... both also excellent. We didn't have a reservation but arrive just after opening and they squeezed us in. Wait staff were friendly and attentive. Highly recommend!

Home Restaurant

22 Wellington Pl, Belfast BT1 6GE, UK – 028 9023 4946

Beautifully paired flavours! The food at Home Restaurant was delicious! They seem to be able to cater to just about any food allergy or dietary requirements which was nice to see. I got the falafel and it was exploding with a variety of flavours all of which complimented each other. The staff there were great and very friendly. Pretty cool vintage decor with various paintings to look at too.

We went here on a recommendation and had a set 3 course menu which was excellent. It was quite busy here throughout the evening and had a nice atmosphere. This was a great first meal out in Belfast.

Chinese Restaurants serving the Belfast area

Sun Kee

43-47 Donegall Pass, Belfast BT7 1DQ, UK – 028 9031 2233

Food is good. Was automatically given forks and knives instead of chopsticks since I'm white. People working there are more fluent in Chinese than English.

Good food, quality is there from Hong Kong. Price is fair enough. Worthy and enjoy. Recommended.

Mandarin Buffet

Cityside Retail Park, 100-150 York St, Belfast BT15 1WA, UK – 028 9075 4811

I am very fond of the Mandarin Buffet. They have a great range of food that both my husband and young daughter enjoy along with there being no problem making me my own vegetarian dish given that most of the buffet is not suitable. The deserts are delicious, both sweet and fresh fruit available with is fantastic. The staff are always helpful and very kind.

Great value for eat as much as you like. Chicken in every sauce but no beef dishes. Good sellection of deserts. Must be good place full of asian diners.

Steamboat

15 Donegal Pass, Belfast BT7 1BS, UK – 028 9023 0862

Great but expensive. The food is awesome and good for family time or apecial occasion s

Love this place. It is our favourite place. Everytime we are in Belfast we come. Staff is great, food tastes amazing. We always do the buffet option where you cook the food you choose on the grill or in a bowl of soup. Very fairly priced and sit and eat as long as you like. Good wine selection and free dessert at the end. Definitely worth checking out. Arrive on an empty stomach!

Indian Restaurants and takeaways in or near Belfast

India Gate

73-75 Great Victoria St, Belfast BT2 7AF, UK – 028 9023 4655

Great indian food in Ireland. A good option for vegetarians travelling to ireland. And ofcourse for those who miss the spice. Nice ambiance and friendly staff.

Superb food and quick friendly staff. Would definitely recommend a visit.

The Raj Indian Restaurant

461 Lisburn Rd, Belfast BT9 7EQ, UK – 028 9066 2168

The food was absolutely delicious. They have a spice system on their menu so you can tell how hot each dish is. Staff were really friendly. I'll definitely be back.

Great food. A real point of great customer service is that the waitress was perceptive to the needs of a solo diner. Recommending portions and meals etc. The saag here is amongst the best that I have eaten.

Moghul Restaurant

62 Botanic Ave, Belfast BT7 1JR, UK – 028 9032 6677

Highly recommended!! I am a regular at this restaurant. I love the food served there. It serves authentic Indian food. You can request how spicy or mild you want it to be. The staff are very friendly and make you feel welcomed the moment you walk in.

Highly recommend this restaurant for both young and old. The service was excellent and the food was amazing. Don't be fooled by the entrance. It is a great restaurant. 10/10!!!

Italian Pasta and Pizza Restaurants

The Chubby Cherub

49A Upper Arthur St, Belfast BT1 4GH, UK – 028 9031 2964

We had dinner here one night and enjoyed the mussels (so so so delicious) and goat cheese pizza! It was fantastic, our server was sweet, and the ambiance was phenomenal. The decor is kinda girly/romantic in the best way. My only complaint is that it gets pretty hot in there with the pizza oven going, so grab a seat near the door. 😊

Nice intimate Italian restaurant. Very warm (no Aircon) but nice service and great food. Authentic Italian food, none of the usual overly creamy sauces, but well cooked fresh pasta and lovely sauces. Had the sharing platter which was delicious and pollo parmesan which wasn't too heavy and chicken moist with crispy breadcrumb coating. The decor is tongue in cheek classic Italian restaurant, but kitsch at the same time.

Fratelli

60 Great Victoria St, Belfast BT2 7BB, UK – 028 9031 0862

Love this restaurant. Staff are so nice and the food is fantastic. Have tried many things and not been disappointed yet. The pizza is amazing! And if you go on a Monday it's 2 for 1 on main courses - can't beat it!

Went here twice! Food was good and fast. Always busy but they are good at letting u know how long the wait is. Sat Inside the first time and outside on the street the second. Was great to people watch.

Zizzi Belfast

Victoria Square, Belfast BT1 4QG, UK – 028 3898 5012

Authentic top quality Italian food. The atmosphere and surroundings are good, the staff are very attentive. The restaurant is welcoming, clean and wheelchair accessable. The food is clean top quality and extremely tasty actually amazingly. Exceeded my expectations. The food is well presented and not in short supply. Children are made very welcome, plenty of families popping in during lunchtime as this restaurant is situated in The Victoria Shopping Centre. No doubt it would have more of an adult clientele during weekday and weekend evening's. I'll definitely give a return visit. Top marks for a top quality restaurant. This restaurant is definitely not a Domino's or Pizza Hut type of restaurant.... If that's your regular type of place to visit then you don't know what Quality Authentic Italian Food is. Give here a try, you will be impressed.

Really enjoyed it. Came across by chance. So pleased we did. Food was absolutely delicious. Our waiter was a really helpful and friendly . Very impressed with this spot highly recommend.

Vegetarian or Vegan Restaurants

Blu Restaurant

13 Rosemary St, Belfast BT1 1QA, UK – 028 9031 4111

Went here for a birthday dinner midweek and they had a couple of deals on, we opted for the two course at £17.95. The starter took a while to come out but when it did, it was really fresh and tasted amazing, the main was no disappointment either. James, our server, was very accommodating and pleasant. We'd wanted to go here for a while and we're glad we did. Definitely be back.

The interior is striking and the good sized portions for amazing prices make this place a must-see!

Giro's Cafe

9 Bruce St, Belfast BT2 7JH, UK

Byo punk/hardcore gigs, popular vegan cafe on Wednesdays

Kitch Restaurant, Belfast

61-63 Dublin Rd, Belfast BT2 7HE, UK – 028 9033 3353

Vegan review: Came here with my husband (omnivore) after a recommendation from an omnivore friend. My husband was very pleased with his food, said it was really tasty! I asked for a vegan menu, they provided a piece of paper with 3 options - risotto, kale salad without the cheese and something else without the something or other! I opted for the risotto, it was ok. I think they could expand their vegan options! Service was great, staff were lovely, the place was nice.

Always get great service and fresh, tasty, interesting food here. highly recommend.

Wine Bars and Cocktail Bars

Bert's Jazz Bar

16 Skipper St, Belfast BT1 2DZ, UK – 028 9026 2713

Amazing cocktails. Arguably the best in Belfast, place is super clean, trendy and extremely relaxing with fantastic staff. Yet to call in for food but I've had a peak at what's been going down to the tables and it looks amazing so it's on the list! Highly recommend with cocktails for both him and her... If you're like me and like a stiff drink you'll not be disappointed, the classics will knock your socks off but in the best way possible!! Very balanced and altogether delicious.

We did Berts Jazz bar by request of my daughter as she wanted to go somewhere posh for her birthday. It didn't disappoint, the food was very good, the place feels classy and service was great. The kids menu was as good as the adult menu so if you or your kids like a bit of posh this place fits nicely. Recommended :)

The Chelsea

A wonderfully creative and relaxing space to meet up with friends... with very friendly and helpful staff. Marcus Ward was a world famous Printers situated on this site, producing both Books and Greeting cards... The Bar has been creatively designed to reflect the old printing presses and wood blocks... beautiful.

The Bartender was extremely cool, plus it has a great vibe and good location, all in all 5 stars it was pretty cool :)
